Really, another blog?

Well, yeah. But this one’s got a pretty specific purpose.

2018 was the first time I published a Year-End Wrap* since 2009. I first assumed I would do this on EffBook, since that’s where my most robust, captive audience is, all day, every day. Microblogging at Facebook sapped most of my long-format blogging energy a long time ago. Ibid my ability to actually read an entire book. Ibid my ability to go to bed on time. And then, in 2010, another annual creative project, affectionately known as The Sooze Show, emerged organically from my narcissistic underbelly, and I did that thing on Facebook for eight years, from 2010 to 2017. Now it’s time for a Wrap Renaissance. And since Facebook doesn’t offer the media rich blogging environment that I like to work with for my Year-End Wraps (I mean, come on already, Notes!) The Navelgazery was born! This is a repository for all my Year-End Wraps, spanning two different blog archives, from 2003 through the present.

* What’s a Year-End Wrap, you ask?

The Wrap is a summary of a year in my life, usually posted shortly after the turn of the New Year. It contains reflections about stuff that’s happened in my life, as well as brief reviews of the books I’ve read (too few), the TV shows and movies I’ve watched (a decent number), the podcasts I’ve devoured (a plenty), and the like. Sometimes there are New Year’s resolutions and other treats.

Why would anyone want to read this shit, being that I’m not a celebrity or anything?

I dunno. Maybe you don’t wanna read this shit. I just happen to be the kind of nerd who likes to document my life in this way, and one or two of my friends and family have also enjoyed being a fly on the wall of my life for some perverse reason. Maybe you will, too! I hope you enjoy it!
